About Tinker Designs
Tinker Designs was founded in 2020 with a creative heart and a social mission. What began as a simple idea—turning polymer clay into gumboot pendants to raise funds for Gumboot Friday—has grown into a vibrant small business and community art initiative. Supporting mental health remains at the core of what we do, with proceeds from our unique jewellery continuing to help provide free counselling for children through this essential New Zealand charity.
Today, Tinker Designs creates stunning, bespoke contemporary jewellery pieces and collaborates with other local artists to lead community art projects for both children and adults. Many of these projects are supported by Creative New Zealand and focus on sustainability and environmental education through art and upcycling. By encouraging hands-on creativity, we aim to inspire people of all ages to see the potential in discarded materials while sparking meaningful conversations around social and environmental issues—all while having fun.
About the Artist– Shelly Gray

I’m a local artist and proud member of the Mahurangi Artist’s Network, passionate about using art to connect, inspire, and give back. With a Diploma in Jewellery Design & Manufacture and Senior Floristry, I specialise in high-end, bespoke jewellery—primarily working in silver and precious stones. My pieces blend fine craftsmanship with bold, fashion-forward design, often drawing inspiration from the natural world and the elegance of Art Nouveau. I’m especially inspired by the visionary work of Alexander McQueen and the glass artistry of Emile Gallé.
Alongside silverwork, I love creating dichroic glass jewellery in my home kiln, playing with colour and light through carefully layered fusions. Whether I’m working in metal, glass, or clay, my goal is always to create art that tells a story—and makes a difference.
